aquaculture oxygenator

Do you know the correct usage method of the oxygenator?

When should the oxygenator be turned on in pond farming? What are the precautions for using the oxygenator? The oxygenator is a necessary equipment for fish farming. Lack of oxygen is one of the reasons that can easily lead to the mass death of fish. However, the oxygenator cannot be turned on all the time. So, when is the water in the pond likely to be oxygen-deficient? What are the matters to pay attention to when using the oxygenator?

When should the oxygenator be turned on during fish farming?

1. On sunny days at noon in hot weather: Open the oxygenator.

This is especially suitable for ponds with thick water quality and vigorous growth of phytoplankton. Because during sunny days, phytoplankton need to undergo a large amount of photosynthesis and release a lot of oxygen, making the surface layer of the water body oxygen-rich and even reaching saturation. However, the oxygen content in the bottom layer of the water body is relatively much lower. Turning on the oxygenator can enable the water body to undergo convection between the upper and lower layers, making the oxygen content uniform and sufficient throughout the pond. At the same time, the bottom water will be mixed to the upper layer, and after being exposed to sunlight, it can eliminate bacteria in the water and volatilize harmful substances into the air, improving the ecological environment of the pond and purifying the water. This can increase yield and benefit.

2. In the morning during thunderstorm weather: Open the oxygenator as soon as possible.

During thunderstorm weather, the water body in the pond undergoes rapid movement up and down, causing a rapid decrease in oxygen content. At this time, the oxygenator should be turned on as soon as possible. Sometimes, during the day, the sunlight is strong and the temperature is high, while in the evening, there will be thunderstorms with a lot of rain entering the pond. Because the temperature of the rain is low, it will quickly cause the surface water temperature of the pond to drop rapidly, resulting in an increase in density and sinking, while the water temperature in the lower layer is high and light, causing it to float upward, resulting in vertical mixing of the water body. This temporarily increases the oxygen content. However, the consumption is also very fast, easily causing fish to surface. Therefore, it is necessary to turn on the oxygenator as early as possible and frequently to alleviate the surfacing phenomenon.

3. At midnight during continuous rainy weather: Open the oxygenator at midnight.

During continuous rainy weather, on the one hand, there is less sunlight, weaker wind, lower air pressure, and more oxygen consumption, and the photosynthesis of phytoplankton is weak. The oxygen content in the water is insufficient. On the other hand, continuous rainy weather will cause an increase in water fleas in the pond, which eat most of the phytoplankton, resulting in a passive reduction in oxygen supply. Turning on the oxygenator at midnight can increase the oxygen content in the water and alleviate the surfaceing phenomenon. At this time, it is generally necessary to continue operating the oxygenator until sunrise to increase the oxygen content in the water body and ensure that the growth of fish is not affected.

4. Turn on the oxygenator frequently when the oxygen deficiency is severe

When the oxygen deficiency is severe, it usually occurs during the summer drought season. On the one hand, due to long-term sunlight exposure, the water body in the pond temperature rises, and the organic matter in the water increases, resulting in a relatively low transparency. The photosynthesis of the upper and lower layers of the water body has a large difference, and the lower layer of the water body is severely oxygen-deficient. On the other hand, fish have a strong appetite and consume a large amount of feed, resulting in thick water quality and an increase in the load of fish in the pond, which may cause severe surfacing of fish. At this time, it is necessary to regularly inject fresh water into the pond to improve the ecological environment of the fish and turn on the oxygenator frequently before the fish surface to prevent the occurrence of “pond overflow” accidents.

Precautions for using the oxygenator

1. Do not turn on the oxygenator when feeding fish

When turning on the oxygenator while feeding fish, it is easy to rotate the feed to the center of the pond, causing the excrement of the feed to accumulate together and not allowing the fish to feed easily, resulting in feed waste.

2. Do not turn on it in the evening

During the evening, although the photosynthesis of phytoplankton in the pond will stop, the oxygen content in the water is not yet tense. If the oxygenator is turned on at this time, it will not only have little effect but also cause the upper and lower layers of the water body to mix earlier and earlier, increasing oxygen consumption in the water layer. The oxygen content in the upper layer of the water will decrease and cannot be replenished, while the oxygen content in the lower layer of the water will be quickly consumed, forming an oxygen debt, and the oxygen content in the water will reach a peak at dawn, easily causing fish to surface.

3. Do not turn on it at noon during rainy weather

On rainy days, there is insufficient light, and the photosynthesis of phytoplankton is weak. The dissolved oxygen content in the surface water layer is also not supersaturated. Moreover, the thermal stratification in the pond water is not obvious. At this time, starting the machine will not only reduce the oxygen-generating capacity of the upper layer phytoplankton, but also accelerate the oxygen consumption rate in the lower layer, which is very likely to cause fish to surface.

Flexibly control the timing of starting the machine

The general time for starting the oxygen booster machine is 1 to 3 hours. Also, depending on the actual situation, pay attention to the following: in hot weather, the starting time is longer; in cool weather, the starting time is shorter; in the middle of the night, the starting time is longer; in the middle of the day, the starting time is shorter; in low wind conditions, the starting time is longer; in high wind conditions, the starting time is shorter; if there is a large amount of fertilizer application in the pond, the starting time is longer; if there is a small amount of fertilizer application, the starting time is shorter; always keep the “high-efficiency oxygen booster tablets” ready for emergency use. In addition, it is also necessary to flexibly control based on factors such as the density and stocking quantity of the fish in the pond.
