Do you really know?
Often, customers ask: How many acres does your oxygenator cover? How many oxygenators should I install for a 10-acre pond? In fact, regarding the configuration of oxygenators, which type of oxygenator to use has always been a controversial topic. Based on experience and data on the performance of oxygenators, the following suggestions are given. Warming reminder: We adhere to the principle of preferring more rather than less in the configuration.

Number of oxygenators
(1) For 8–12 acres of fish pond, we use a 3-kilowatt oxygenator. If we choose 1.5-kilowatt units, we install two of them. And so on.
(2) We base oxygenator power on expected yield. Past experience shows that we can produce 5,000–7,000 kg of fish per kilowatt.
(3) According to water quality: On the basis of the above, if the water transparency is high (> 70 cm) or low (< 25 cm), the pH is low (<7), or the ammonia nitrogen and other harmful gases are high, the power of the oxygenator should be increased. According to measurements, the total oxygen consumption per kilogram of fish per hour is approximately 1.0g, of which the oxygen consumption for life activities is about 0.15g, and the oxygen consumption for food digestion and excretion decomposition is about 0.85g. Taking a 10-acre (6,667㎡) intensive fish pond as an example, the configuration of oxygenators is shown in the table below.
a. When determining the loading capacity of oxygenators, we consider water depth, area, and pond shape. We recommend the water wheel type for rectangular ponds. We choose the impeller type for square or circular ponds. For each kilowatt of power, we can use one impeller oxygenator to meet the oxygenation needs of 3.8 acres (about 2,530㎡) of surface fish ponds. For ponds larger than 4.5 acres (about 3,000㎡), we should consider installing two or more oxygenators.
b. Installation position of oxygenators: Oxygenators should be installed in the center of the pond or in the position with the stronger wind. Generally, they should be 5 meters away from the pond bank and fixed with stakes or anchors.
To achieve better farming benefits, one must learn to correctly design and place different types of oxygenator machinery. Especially for different farming varieties, reasonable combination of oxygenation equipment based on the farming density can create better farming results.
For four-major-fish ponds, we place one impeller aerator per 3–5 acres. We also add one spare unit, making 2 in total, to handle emergencies. We install a water wheel aerator in the feeding zone.
10-acre pond configuration suggestion: Oxygenator configuration: 2 units of 1.5kw impeller oxygenators + 1 water wheel oxygenator + 1 feeding machine. Upgrade configuration: 1 fish controller + dissolved oxygen meter + camera
We design rare fish ponds (for turbot, silver carp, catfish, yellow catfish, and big white perch) based on stocking density. We place one impeller aerator per 3–5 acres. We also install bottom micro-perforated aerators across the whole pond and water wheel aerators at each corner. We tailor the oxygenation setup to each fish species.
10-acre pond configuration suggestion: Oxygenator configuration: 2 units of 1.5kw impeller oxygenators + 2 water wheel oxygenators + 1 feeding machine. Upgrade configuration: 1 fish controller + dissolved oxygen meter + camera
20-acre pond configuration suggestion: Oxygenator configuration: 4 units of 1.5kw impeller oxygenators + 4 water wheel oxygenators + 1 feeding machine. Upgrade configuration: 2 fish controllers + dissolved oxygen meter + camera
10-acre pond configuration suggestion: Oxygenator configuration: 4 units of 1.5kw impeller oxygenators + 2 water wheel oxygenators + 1 feeding machine. Upgrade configuration: 2 fish controllers + dissolved oxygen meter + camera
We run oxygenators safely. We set the timing and duration according to stocking density, water quality, growth season, weather, and oxygenator load. This way, we make sure they work effectively and avoid waste.
