Oxygenation and water replacement are the best methods for water management

When it comes to fish farming, I have always believed that oxygenation and water replacement are the best water management methods. However, many farmers often prefer to choose products that they don’t fully understand, instead of the ones that are more effective. I won’t elaborate on the functions of the oxygenator, but it is definitely not just a life-saving device. If operated properly, it can increase efficiency by 1000 yuan per mu in a single day. So, how should one operate the oxygenator?

My opinion is that there are four situations where the oxygenator must be turned on, and it should be turned on at full power

Turn it on early at night

Turning on the oxygenator at night not only prevents fish from floating and overturning the pond, but also helps increase the vitality of algae, prevent algae from dying off, and allow the fish to have a better meal the next day. Therefore, turning on the oxygenator at night is very important. Here is a reference for you: for every mu of fish with a load of 1000 kilograms or more, turn on the oxygenator before 12:00 midnight. For every mu of fish with a load of 2000 kilograms or more, turn it on before 22:00. The larger the fish load, the earlier the oxygenator should be turned on.

There is a proverb that everyone may have heard: one floating head means wasting three meals. Let’s do some calculations. If there is a 2-hour floating head with 10,000 kilograms of fish, at least 80 kilograms of feed will be wasted. The cost of 80 kilograms of feed can run a 3000-watt oxygenator for over 50 hours. So, don’t be stingy with that little electricity bill; it’s not worth sacrificing the big picture.

Turn it on in the afternoon

Because the temperature is high in the afternoon, the water body will experience thermal stratification. This stratification traps dissolved oxygen in the upper layer. It also prevents toxins from escaping the lower layer. We must use the oxygenator. It pushes oxygen down from the top. It flushes toxins out from the bottom. This boosts algae vitality in the middle and lower layers. It also stops algae from dying off.

Turn it on during thunderstorm weather

When sudden strong temperature drops or heavy rainstorms occur, due to the temperature difference between the upper and lower layers of the water body, there will be strong convection, which is very likely to cause oxygen deficiency and pond overturning. Therefore, it is necessary to turn on the oxygenator at this time to prevent problems before they occur.

Turn it on when toxins accumulate

This includes after using insecticides and disinfectants, after algae die-off, when nitrite, ammonia nitrogen, and hydrogen sulfide in the water exceed the standard, etc. We use the oxygenator to increase oxygen to enhance the fish’s resistance and the vitality of algae, achieving the effect of degrading toxins and reducing risks.
Because fish farming densities vary and weather changes are unpredictable, there is no fixed pattern for turning on the oxygenator. As long as you grasp the above four key points, increasing production in fish farming is not a dream.
